animation

On this page you will find some of my favorite animation projects, both personal and professional! You can also check out the links below to follow my animation adventures online:

Aunt Phibian - Winner of the Best Overall Animation prize at the 2022 Vermont Animation Festival! All the backgrounds were created traditionally with ink wash and then brought into Toon Boom Harmony, where I created the multiplane effect and added character animation.

Phoney Bone Double-Bounce Walk - I used Jeff Smith’s character Phoney Bone from the beloved comics series Bone to practice animating a double-bounce walk.

The Friends of Shawn Kerri - Some friends of mine are making a documentary about punk cartoonist and illustrator Shawn Kerri and hired me to create this short animation based on some of her iconic drawings, to help build interest in the film.

Fang Glider - In November 2020 I downloaded the trial of Toon Boom Harmony. I created this short animation to learn the software and test its capabilities. It's an amazing application and I ended up buying it, which will allow me to create more complicated animations.

Nogard the Dragon Head Rotation - This is a 360-degree head rotation of my character Nogard the Dragon from my middle grade fantasy graphic novel series and award-winning webcomic, Isle of Elsi. Created in Toon Boom Harmony

L’employé du Moi Walk Cycle - I created this walk cycle in 2014 for L'employé du Moi, the French language publisher of my graphic novel Basewood. It depicts my character Argus from that book walking in the "shape" of the L'employé du Moi logo. Each author published by L'employé du Moi also animated one of their characters in this same template, and they were all looped together and displayed at a 15-year retrospective exhibit of the publishers work at the Festival international de la bande dessinée d'Angoulême in January 2015. It was animated on paper and painstakingly composited in Photoshop.

Animation Overload! The more I learn about animation, the more I want to learn about animation! It is becoming an obsession, which I tried to express in this short self-portrait, created in RoughAnimator.

40 - When I turned 40 I decided that animation would be my midlife crisis. I created this short animation to try and show what it feels like to turn 40. It was animated in Clip Studio Paint.
