INDIE ROCK ROADTRIP TOUR VISUALS (2023)

For their 2023 summer tour, weezer wanted the stage design and "visuals" (video assets played behind the band during their performances) to build off of the Indie Rock Roadtrip themes and style established in the tour poster I illustrated.

Travis Shirley and his team at Blank Wall Creative built a dashboard stage design based on my cover illustration for the 2019 weezer fan club exclusive 7", "It's Been So Long." The tour visuals were then displayed on a massive screen where the "windshield" was.

I was hired by weezer to work with SRND Studio in Brooklyn, NY to help create the tour visuals. Under the direction of Brad Palmer and Brian Palmer I created more than 700 illustrations and 99 animated loops, which the talented team of animators and motion graphic designers at SRND Studio turned into 120 minutes of video content for the 24-song set list. We did this in 67 days. It was truly the craziest project I have ever worked on!

Here is a reel I edited together of a bunch of the animation work I did on this show. In this reel I tried to only highlight the animation work that I did. In some cases this includes recreating a simpler version of a shot from the show to provide context for the animation, and to not show other people's work.

Below you can see a video of the live show to see all the various ways the talented motion graphics designers and animators at SRND plussed my illustrations and added their own elements to make a killer show. I also included a few animations that I created which were not used in the show, seen here for the first time!

I do not have the rights to use weezer's music, so I recommend you turn up your favorite weezer song before watching this reel!
