WEEZER COLORING BOOK FLIP BOOK (2026)

As a bonus item for the weezer Coloring Book Box Set that I illustrated, weezer let me make a flip book. Each side contained a 168-frame animation. "Side A" used motion graphics and a bit of hand-drawn animation to transition through the cover art for each of the color albums in the box set (blue, green, red, white, teal, black). "Side B" featured a bunch of "Undone" dogs walking across the page, from my Indie Rock Roadtrip tour visuals. There were only 300 of these made, and they sold out in the first 15 minutes on release day.

Since this is extremely out of print, I thought it would be cool to post the "Side A" animation from the flip book so everyone can see it. This was also used in the promotion for the Coloring Book Box Set. Please note there are color "swipes" behind each album in this version. The flip book was only black lines on white paper (with the idea that someone might be able to color it).

The other difference between the video above and the printed flip book is that the video displays at 24 frames per second, but the flip book only uses 8 frames per second. This took some experimentation to figure out, but it makes sense if you think about it. A video is very efficient at displaying a rapid succession of still images, whereas flipping pieces of paper are not. If you put every frame of an animation into a flipbook, you'll find that the animation feels very slow and takes a long time to flip through. To make the animation play at the same speed as a video, keep every third frame, but throw out the other two, to bring it down to 8fps!
